NOTICE – The City of Binghamton requires its own Civil Service Test, which is *NOT* the same as the Broome County Civil Service Test.
Founded in 1867, the Binghamton Police Department currently has 140 sworn officers. Crime affects all segments of our society and is a universal concern. The Binghamton Police Department makes every attempt to involve the community in generating mutual understanding and cooperation between the residents and the police. Involving the community enhances both police and resident knowledge of public safety issues in the city. Although there are certain crimes that cannot be prevented, crimes committed against innocent victims in public places and crimes against property can be deterred by proactive police operations and an involved community. The Binghamton Police Department deters crimes by walking and vehicle patrols in neighborhoods and business areas. The Community Response Team saturates high crime areas and makes pro-active community policing their focus. The police and community working together makes the City of Binghamton a better place to live, work and raise a family.
